  1. they get money from the fed's lets say $20 a day per inmate and only spend $5 per inmate see?

  2. The more people arrested, the bigger profit for the jail owner. Which means a person could be arrested for breaking a wind in a public place...

  3. $$$$$$$$$$$$$  Private prison companies have far lower expenses than a government staffed prison.  Primarily the companies pay prison staff far, far less in pay & benefits and usually have smaller staffs than government prisons which must deal with union demanded staffing levels.

Private prisons also are usually able to save on items like food, medical and supplies as they do not have the mandated procurement rules the government has.

    Its all about the money.

  4. Private companies are making big money on jails and prisons. That's why we the U.S. has a higher percentage of people in jail than any other country.

  5. All of this is true, but in my expereince they tend to be shadier. There is a government-run prison and a private one somewhat close to where I live.

I am a reporter and just yesterday there was a death at the federal institution and a press release was issued pretty quickly. Not much info, but enough.

A few months back, there was a riot at the private prison and the only way I was able to get any information was because they could not handle the number of casualties in-house and had to call the fire department to help. I was able to obtain my info through them. To this day I have not gotten any call back from that place.

    Shady.
