I noticed a problem with the bike today, it would start no problem with full choke cold... took way longer than normal to be able to go to half and then no choke. Still idled ok without stalling but as soon as I even touched the throttle (in either neutral or first) it would stall. The bike had sit for a couple weeks while I was away so I tried putting the fuel to Prime for a few mins... didnt make a diff. Since it sounded like it was idling WAY too low my friend adjusted the idle s***w and it sounded way better. He had a hand held serometer (sp) and after he adjusted it higher it was at 1100 (where it is now) that seemed to fix the throttle stalling issue all together. I wanted to know though what the correct idle rpm should be. Its not listed in the owners manual (they say all carb adjustments should be by an 'authorized' yamaha dealer...) and I cant find the correct numbers online. I remember coming across it though before and I am sure it was NOT below 1000 rpm...

  1. You'd be better off joining a Yamaha Users group or a Yamaha club. Look at www.yahoogroups.com, Put Virago in the search box and I bet they have a virago group or club.

  2. about 1100 rpm's

  3. I'd say about a clean 1000rpms

A manual will answer this, otherwise find a Virago forum online and ask this question there
