What is the proper length for a good fiting figure skating dress?

I just got my first dress about a week or two ago.I didn't buy it, we got it for free from a friend. I don't know if the length of the skirt is okay. How long should it be? I know there isn't an exact amount, but a range would be nice. Thanks!

i've been skating for 15 years and i'm 17. i'm an ice dancer and soloist. my practice dress is around 30 cm long, but the skirt part gets shorter every year! my dance practice dress is about 2-3 inch. below my knee (i'm 5'5 in skates) if you have any questions email me at [e-mail]

If you are a regular figure skater competitior your dress should come about half way up your thigh (approx. where your fingertips end when ur hands are at your sides). If you are a DANCE figure skater than usually the dress skirts come down to about your knee. Dance dresses are much longer usually then a regular single woman competitor dress. But if having a longer skirt and it acts as more of a costume effect that goes with your music then go for what ever length you want!!! *** There is no specific regulation for that kind of thing, but just the usual is what i listed above.

A freestyle/practice skirt length should  cover 3-5 inches below your bum.  

A dance dress for ice dancing or synchronize skating skirt would be much longer. Usually just above the knees.

The typical length for a freestyle dress is about mid thigh, longer skirts are usually reserved for dance, but sometimes the skirts are shorter. Just as long as its not super skimpy, it should be fine...

the skirt should cover your bottom and your hips.

Okay, this is how to tell.

Put on your dress then put your arms straight down, if the dress is above the clenched wrist then its way to short. If it is around the clenched wrist then its okay, Now put your hand out and put your arm straight down if its paste your fingers then its a little long sorry - it wont be long if your an ice dancer though. =] Hope it helps, hope I made sense lol =D
