the person who is  specialist in eye is known as ophthalmologist. to become ophthalmologist they first complete their MBBS and do specialization. they make as an ordinary doctor.

an opthalmologist is someone who you'd see for lasik surgery, eye diseases, glaucoma, cataracts etc. a normal consult is $100 for 15 mins. for this you need to start off studying medicine first for 4 years and then specialise in eyes which is another 5-6 years. you need to go through an optometrist before you can get an appointment with an opthalmologist and they will only accept patients with referral letters. its the optometrists duty to make the appointment, call and confirm and make sure the patient has all there records.
