What is the proper name of the muffler that's in the front part of the car?

its called a catalyst converter and its not a muffler it cleans the fumes that comes out of your engine to produce clean emissions it also reduces horsepower and can damage your engine if it goes bad and you continute to drive it will become clogged and couyld cause engine to overhead and possible do internal engine damage

Many cars have two mufflers in addition to the catalytic converter. The front muffler is actually a resonator.

Starting at the engine and moving back there is the catalytic converter, then the resonator, then the muffler.

Of course depending on the model and year there may only be a muffler, muffler and resonator, muffler and catalytic converter, or all three.
