  1. Who decided you had the right to "punish" anyone?  Other questions that leap to mind are is this person hearing impaired? Is it just that he/she does not agree with you?  Get a grip.

  2. Clearly this is time for a "Time Out"  sit in the corner on a low stool and have your back to the room.  I would say 10 minutes and then with a stern voice and shake of the finger remind them never to disobey you again.

    Good job

  3. Deal with it maturely by taking her aside.  Make yourself look bigger than her, look her directly in the eye, step close and say something like "Yesterday during our confrontation I felt ____,  so please do not speak to me this way again."  If you use a lot of "YOU" terminology, (eg, YOU were shouting like an idiot, YOU are a *&^#@, YOU act like a moron, etc.)  she will get defensive and probably raise her voice again.  If you keep things in terms of "I" she won't have anything to argue about.

If you are her "co-worker," you have no authority over her and you are not within your right to "punish" her.  Given that you had this conflict, practical jokes would NOT be funny, but childish and you would only end up dragging yourself down to her level.  You want to be a respectable person, regardless of whether or not she is.  And most people who behave inappropriately don't get it when someone tries to "teach them a lesson," so it isn't really in your best interests to try.

  4. If she's on the same level as you are, then nothing. You have no authority here.

You "told" her to simmer down. Maybe if you had ASKED her to cool off, she would not have raised her voice. Try asking next time and see if that gets you a calmer, milder-toned response. I'm willing to bet that it will.

People being snotty toward me is enough to make me angry. You don't like to let things slide...well, in this case, I suggest you learn how to make things slide. To seek "punishment" or revenge is immature and makes you look vindictive. Leave it be. As the saying goes, don't sweat the small stuff.
