What is the proper thickness and width for concrete footings ?

  1. The most common in my area is a spread footing.  16" wide by 8" deep.

  2. It really depends on the soil you are placing the footers on. That said, a "typical" footer would be 12" thick, 18" wide with a couple of #4 rebars running in it. Also a good idea to stub up some rebar for the block.
