i recently put in my two weeks for an hourly position at a summer job. this job was an internship-like position at a pharmacy, and they knew that i was going back to school. we negotiated my last day to be august 2nd. however, a family function has came up for that weekend that requires me to be off on the first and the second. would it be rude of me to ask for those days off, being my last two days scheduled to work for them? thanks for any input.

  1. Do what you have to do. If you didn't know about the function prior to putting in your two weeks you can't help this. I'm sure quitting a couple days early wouldn't be completely out of the question. Most places like that are usually pretty understanding. Let your manager know ASAP so they can cover your shifts.

  2. Since you have already indicated your last day of work and they have already counted on you being there, it might be difficult to get the day off.

Consider speaking to the manager to explain the circumstances and see if it will put them in a bind to have the extra day.

Otherwise, welcome to the grown up reality of working, you can't always go to every activity when it interferes with your job.
