I have my amp running from the sub out on deck. It is 4 channel(2 bridged on a 12, other 2 non-bridged on 2 12s). Amp settings include = level=subsonic=lowpass x-over=bass boost(each set of channels have own settings)

  1. The most important is the gain (also the level).

The purpose of the gain is to match the signal volts RMS coming from the source (CD player, etc.) to the input of the amp to prevent clipping (damage by over powering).

Here is a guide that will help you set the gain correctly http://www.box.net/shared/uchv4dbk88

You'll need a multi-meter (AC voltmeter, $15 from Radio$hack), Microsoft Excel and a way to burn an audio CD from an MP3.

If you don't have Excel, use this link http://www.box.net/shared/nkkw1dhk4g

The subsonic means it will cancel frequencies BELOW the setting you specify. This is to keep damaging low frequencies from getting to the sub(s).

The lowpass x-over (crossover) means it will cancel frequencies ABOVE the setting you specify. This is to keep the frequencies withing the frequency range of the subs. Example, if the frequency respons of the subs you have is 20Hz - 200Hz, set the LPF (lowpass filter) to about 180Hz.

The bass boost will boost frequencies in the 40hz range. Be very carefull with this setting as it can damage the subs if abused. I recommend not to exceed +2dB.
