What is the proper way to end talking to a neighbor when out shooting the breeze?

Sometimes I am at a loss for words but don't want to seem rude and just walk away without saying something?

say "I'm leaving now" and go.

"well it's getting late and i have a big day ahead of me, i'll talk to you later"

Say something like, "well man, its been great talking to you, but I gotta finish taking the garbage out".

I like to say something close ending that won't lead to further questioning or discussion.

Examples:

It was good catching up with you have a good day

Well I need to get going, have a good one

Tell them to hang on just a minute and go inside. Then lock your doors and don't go back out. They will get the point.

Or

Start talking crazy. Start saying irrational, prejudice, and offensive things for no apparent reason.

well, when the conversation seems or is coming to an end jus say...nicely....alright well nice talking to ya!

Just say hey. If they keep talking, talk to them for awhile, and then say something like, "well, I won't keep you. nice to talk to you!"

I use humor. I usually say something like, "Well, gotta run. Places to go, people to annoy."

On the phone I like to say, "Well gotta go annoy hubby now, you've had your turn."

I don't have neighbors, but when I did, I would just say, "Well!  Gotta go -- nice talking to you.  Bye."  If the neighbor would continue to talk, then after a few more minutes of chit-chat, I would say,"Well, I have quite a few things to get done today, so I better get busy.  Bye."
