Question:

What is the pulse in my throat?

I'm a female - 25 years old and I've woken up this morning and for about the last ten mins I've has a really horrible pulse in my throat. I can feel it when I place my 2 fingers on the neck just at my throat next to the adams apple, slightly to the right of it. It keeps going really fast then slowing down, going away then coming back? Any ideas of what it could be?

Thanks

  1. Normal, unless it stops !

  2. It is exactly what you said, a pulse! lol your funny. When you are running or stressed it beats harder to pump the blood through your body to deliver oxygen, but you say "it beats hard then it stops" if it really is stopping then you are having serious problems lol.. if you count how many times it beats it should be between 60-90 beats per minute and that means your perfect and normal.. lol did you just discover you have a heart beat in your neck? did you not go to PE class or something lol

  3. The pulse you feel is from the Carotid Artery, the main artery in the body. The reason it slows is because, without realising it, you hold your breath when counting it.

  4. Go to your doctor ASAP. This could be an aneurysm.
