  1. There is no punishment for an 18 year old who refuses to go with your family and break the fast at someone else's house.  He is refusing to go.  If he lives with you and your family, he must abide by your parents rules, but he is 18.  In my religion, this would not be an issue.  There is no requirement to break the fast among a specific group of people.

Fasting is to deepen the personal connection of an individual to his religion and to God.  This is his own choice.

It is not wise of you to try to get him punishment for this.  This is a decision for a different group of people.

  2. Why break your fast? I think your family should follow the example of this 18 yr old. Sounds like he may have honorable instincts that should be commended....NOT punished.

  3. if he is over 18, then he is old enough to make his own decision on religion or where he wants to eat. punishing him like a kid isn't a solution. just sensibly talk with him like an adult and explain what consequences he might have to deal with for his actions.
