  1. Water is just needed along with carbon dioxide and light energy in order to make glucose and oxygen.

    without water, the products could not be made.

  2. The energy for photosynthesis ultimately comes from absorbed photons and involves a reducing agent, which is water in the case of plants, releasing oxygen as a waste product.

    I hope this helps...

  3. Plants take up substances n convert them into stored form of energy....so they take up these substances in the form of carbon dioxide n water....In the presence of sunlight photolysis of water takes place....water splits up into oxygen and hydrogen.....

    (In the presence of sunlight)

    H2O---------->2H+ +1/2O2 +2e-

    here there r 2 molecules of hydrogen.....I have wriiten 2 plus sign after 2H coz hydrogen is a posiive ion as it looses i electron....so if two molecules of hydrogen r there it will loose 2 electrons.....half of O2 = O as in H2O there is only I molecule of oxygen...we can't simply write O....we have to write 1/2O2....2e- is coz hydrogen is loosing two electron so 2e-....It is 2e n minus sign ....minus sign(-) coz electron is negative....

  4. The purpose of water is to provide electron ions and hydrogen ions to be used in two reactions.

    Photosynthesis converts solar energy to chemical in two reactions working together synchronously. The energy from the captured photon is used to split water molecules in order to harvest the hydrogens and the electrons separately.

        2H2O  ->  4H+   +  O2  +  4e- (photolysis)

    The chlorophyll keeps the electrons and ships the hydrogen ions & O2 to the stroma but secretes the O2 as waste while it takes in CO2. However the hydrogen is combined with CO2 to make the carbohydrate glucose.

    6CO2 + 6H2O + energy from photolysis = C6H12O6 + 6O2

    The energy, first used to phosphorylate ADP & reduce NADP+, is transfered by these molecules to the calvin cyle that fixes carbon into an organic form. The energy is used to make a carbohydrate from carbon dioxide & the hydrogens from the water. CO2 and water are considered inorganic molecules in this type of reaction.

    The site has a lot of images and diagrams that show where and when the reactions occur.
