  1. A capacitor is used to store a certain amount of power, think of it as a tiny car battery, when hooked up into a car close to the amp it acts like reinforcement to the car battery, when the amplifier hits a low note it needs a lot of current so since the cap is there and close to the amp  it pulls the current stored in the cap so that the bass note or notes can  can sound good and tight, that way the current does not have to be pulled all the way from the battery, so basically it just reinforces the current from the amp to the battery so that the bass can sound good....a cap will be a load on the alternator, but will help when the amp needs the current for heavy bass notes..

  2. Talk to Sparky3489.. he has something wrote up that you could read.

  3. Its really like a second battery in which it charges and recharges quickly (than a normal battery) when ever there is strain with your alt.

For some its use less but for others its helps just depends what your running and your alt.
