  1. Are you referring to the one under the hood?  If so, way back long time ago, when cars had carbureators, it helped when you had backfire thru carb to stop hood from getting toasted.  Nowadays, it's there for no reason, car makers just make extra money.


  2. Keeps the paint from stone chips.

  3. Prevent stone/rock chips in the paint. Frankly, the d**n things are so ugly I would rather have chipped paint anyday.

  4. It does just what its name states, it protects the hood from rocks and debris from scratching and chipping the paint..
