This is my 3rd time getting my crowns replaced. Today when I went in for my 1st crown replacement procedure to get my temps, my new dentist used a dark colored wire & wrapped it around my teeth & then put the temps on. I didn't really think NEthing of it @ tha time. I've NEVER had this wire used b4. So it's been several hours since & I can now notice my gums are darker b/c of this wire. I HATE this look. It's d**n near ridiculous. I don't have a huge smile but I do not appreciate this look tha wire gives my gums. It's my 1st front 2 teeth th@ my crowns are on, tooth 8 & 9. I'm gonna wait ta talk to my dentist about this when I go back in 2 weeks. But is this wire really & absolutely necessary!? My most recent set of crowns did not need a wire of NE sort & they lasted approx 12 yrs with no problems whatsoever.

  1. it is to retain your gum tissue where he needs it for your permanent crown which will fit nicely just underneath your gumline and look better that way.  remember they are call temporary's for a reason!

YES, THAT IS WHAT IT SOUNDS LIKE.  YOU MAY WANT TO PHONE YOUR DENTAL OFFICE TO BE FOR SURE.  I AM A HYGIENIST AND THAT IS WHAT IT SOUNDS LIKE TO ME.  ARE YOU SURE IT IS A WIRE ANYWAY?  SOMETIMES DENTIST USE SOMETHING CALLED "CORD"  AND IT RETAINS THE CROWN PREP.  IT CAN BE DARK COLORED AND LOOKS SORT OF LIKE FLOSS....HOPE THIS HELPS AND GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR CROWNS !!
