Their are many purposes, to exploit beauty, humor etc. Also to keep memories. Also another purpose is because taking photographs make people feel more special.

Honestly, I feel like its only photography if you catch a specific moment in time. Something that makes the viewer wonder. I moment that may never happen again. I once in a lifetime event. Candids, views of things. Events happening. The purpose is to capture an image, something that can alter the state of mind, change a point of view, see the world from someones elses point of view, hovever.

If your talking about "myspace photography". Thats not even photography. It shows no talent. Anyone could do it with the right given camera and settings. A five year old could take close up pictures of flowers from "myspace angles" given the right camera. Thats really not photography. I'm so sick of seeing people with pages full of closeups of random objects and boring sunsets and oceans. Its actually really concieded. Anyone can do stuff like that.

A true photographer captures something life chaning. They can change the world threw images taken threw the lense of a camera.

On a lighter note. Its just a fun thing to do take pictures. Just don't act all like your the best in the world because you can point and shoot at something. It takes skills taking a true photograph. You need to capture a moment, something life changing, something stunning, something from a new perspective.
