What isn't good about poetry? It's self expression through the power of words. We all have the ability to write poetry, it is simply write what you feel inside, let it all out.

Are you even aware how powerful words are? No i think you are not if you ask such a question.

Poetry is art. Music is art. Painting is art. Serial Killing is also art....anything that is self expression is art.

Nobody knows the purpose of life for it means different things to different people. It is much like poetry. Poetry means different things to different people and reaches out to people in ways others could not possibly understand. Poetry expresses the poet's feelings and hopes to connect with the readers. So my answer to your question is that the purpose of poetry is basically to connect and reach out with your readers and change their view of matter.

I like to write poetry, it is a form of self expression.  A lot of songs are just poems sang out.  If people wrote out some of their angers the homicide rate would drop down I think.
