  1. Preschool is about PLAY . This is how children between the ages of 2-5 learn.

There is a lot of sensory activities; paying with cornstarch dry at first then add water and feel the differance is a science activity.

Make a wall of paper an have children paint up,down, left and right as far as they can reach helps with large motor skills.

Reading stories and have children read books on their own help literacy.

Cooking is a math lesson that you can eat.

  2. to get you ready for life just ask robert fulghum

  3. Preschool's purpose is to educate young children (ages 3 and 4).

It began as more and more families became two-income earners.  So the children in these families were placed in day care.  As parents generally want the best for their kids, they chose daycares that provide some early education advantages, as opposed to a day care that just lets kids watch TV all day long.  This resulted in these kids entering Kindergarten better prepared.

In other words, most kids begin Kindergarten already knowing their letters, numbers, and can even read and write.  These kids are also better adapted for a school setting (ie have better socialization skills).

Public Education chose to add a Preschool class to ensure that ALL kids begin Kindergarten on the same level.  Most public education schools end up teaching to the lowest student and those students who aren't in day care, are far behind the majority.

Some states support a voluntary preschool (mine does), and for others it's mandatory.  But as parents we still have a choice whether to go the Public School, Private School, or Day Care route.

  4. preschool is like getting kids used to school. they will learn to have new friends, get away from their families, seeing new things, trying new things. things like that. to get used to the world that is waitiing for them

  5. The foundation for what children learn later in life is built in preschool and toddler years.  I work at an early learning center where we actually teach children starting at around 18 months.  It's amazing how much better the children we teach do than those who only go to preschool or kindergarten!

  6. preschool is to let the kid get social with other kids and to get used to being away from their moms/mums.. and making friends

  7. Preschool teaches young children social skills, and early literacy skills. Children from 3-4 learn ABC's, numbers, creativity, how to follow directions, and get prepared for kindergarten.

  8. Preschool is a time of development for motor development, social develop, and cognitive development. There are also many other developmental skills are involved. It is a time of learning where early childhood begins the drying process of wet cement.

  9. I think one of the main purposes of preschool is socialization.  If a child does not know how to socialize wtih other children, then learning in kindergarten will be more difficult.  Also, in preschool, pre-writing, pre-reading, early math and science skills are begun.  These should all be hands-on activities because this is the level children are at.

  10. To preprogram your kids.  Where kindergarten use to be the beginning big business and government think we should start as early as they can walk.  Parents aren't equipped to teach their child today they need a licensed teacher, so say these groups.  We need to mold these young minds so that when they are adults they will not talk back they will be productive workers. Yak Yak Yak!

:Let the children be children.  There are many ways to learn social skills we don't need to mandate it. Wake up America let's advocate for individuals not robots.

  11. There are many purposes, but I would say that socialization is one of the best purposes.  Also, assisting three - four year olds in gaining, maintaining and enhancing developmental milestones.  It is needed more and more as time goes on...because parents are often working multiple jobs, so there time with their children is often limited due to work hours.  There is not a large number of mothers or fathers staying home with the young children as there once was, so the children are not getting that one-on-one help with the developmental skills as they once did.

  12. Helps kids to adjust to the idea of sharing, consideration of others, and being away from home on their own, and especially good for kids who is an only child or whose parents socialize mostly with adults who have no kids.

  13. I see a lot of answers dealing with socialization and learning.  Those are important.  I have a different perspective since I'm a Montessori teacher and think a lot of that comes from independence, which I see as the biggest purpose of preschool.

Learning how to take care of yourself (clean up after yourself, take care of your own coat),  socializing by playing together and taking care of each other, and learning both on your own and as a group.  These thing all boil down to developing independence - whether that independence involves learning something, taking care of yourself, or treating others with respect and getting along with them (among a huge list I could ramble on about).

  14. Preschool is to help develop a child's skills, and to prepare them for grade school.

  15. for liberal groups to program their views into the kiddies at an early age. homosexuality is taught now to 3&4's as an acceptable part of being a family. Christian whites are considered a bigoted majority. preschoolers don't need to go to preschool, mom and me groups offer the socialization and activities a child this age needs.

Here are lessons from the NAEYC Anti-bias Curriculum guide for preschool and BABIES !!

Multiculturalism: Definition of Whites: All the different national ethnic groups of European origin who as a group are disproportionately represented in the control of the economic, political, and cultural institutions in the United States. (p. 3)  Teaching Pacifism:

Another part of the book describes what happens when a teacher is out on a walk with the children and sees the Blue Angels preparing for an air show.  She tells the children that they are bombing planes and then has them return to school and write their feelings regarding what they saw.  Here is a sample of what they wrote .They drew pictures of planes with Xs through them: This is a crossed off bombing plane. They drew bomb factories labeled No.  Ann wrote down their messages: Blue Angels stop.  Respect our words Blue Angels.  Respect kids words.  Dont kill people.  This is a book to tell you, Stop Blue Angels.  Dont kill anyone.  If you blow up our city, we wont be happy about it.  And our whole city will be destroyed.  And if you blow up my favorite library, I wont be happy because there are some good books there I havent read yet.
