  1. The steel tubing cage inside of the race car’s interior that surrounds and protects the driver from impacts or rollovers.

A tubular steel structure incorporating a roll bar plus additional bars along the doors, windshield header, roof rails, etc., built into some racing cars to help protect the driver if the car rolls over, is impacted by another car or crashes.

  2. To protect the people inside the car if it rolls over.

  3. to protect the passengers in the vehicle in case it rolls over

  4. In professional race cars there a strong chance of the car rolling over during a hard turn.  The ROLL CAGE prevents the roof from flattening out and injuring the driver.

    Good Luck.

P.S.  the side benefit is that it can make the frame stiffer - stronger.

  5. They prevent the roof of the car from being crushed if the car rolls.  A crushed roof usually equals a broken neck, or splattered brains.  The roof may be strong enough to hold up the car if you set it gently on the roof, but if you slam the car into the ground upside down, most roofs cannot take that impact.

A full cage prevents the entire passenger compartment from deforming in the event of an accident from any direction.

They are much more rigid than the structure of the car alone.  They are not used on street cars because they are inconvenient.
