  1. The purpose of a helicopter is to take cargo and people to their destination just like any other form of transportation, but its main advantage is its quick speed and ability to take off and land vertically whic also give it the ability to land in very remote places where planes couldnt even begin to reach. If you copy and paste this directly for your report i'll sue for millions.

  2. life flight---they sometimes land on the interstate and fly critical injuries to the hospital--search and rescue as they can hover and fly closer to the ground

  3. TO FLY ?!?!?!?

  4. The police use them to make that "wopp wopp wopp" sound and wake up everybody in my neighbourhood at night.

  5. lots of things. its slower than an airplane, and it can hover, which means the crew can get a better view of the ground, or take better pictures for example. also it can hover and rescue people from the ground without landing, or drop off and pick up people and stuff without a runway. There are a lot of things helicopters can do...

  6. VTOL Vertical take-off and landing.

  7. To demonstrate how many moving parts can be screwed together and somehow fly....against all reasonable theory.

Seriously the main advantage of helicopters is the same as always. They can land and take off vertically in a very small space. They can hover and they can move backwards and sideways. Actually I love them. But they are like anything else mechanical, advantages and disadvantages. In a helicopter proper the main disadvantage is the laws of physics limit top speed. Tilt rotors may resolve that. But I am cynical because Bell does not have the best ethical reputation in the industry. On that issue I am wait and see......So far I have not seen much. Including the current deployment of the "Thunder Chickens" to Iraq. The V-22 is being babied there. It is using a lot of spare parts. It is mostly a VIP transport and its not being shot at or doing any shooting. The boasts it flies faster and higher don't impress me much. Anything has to land and take off some time. Anything that does that straight up and down is a pretty easy target. The mission of the V-22 is to get troops and supplies into combat and do it safely. Not fly VIP's. When the V-22 proves it can go into combat, survive and defend itself and do it reliably and cheaply I will believe in it again. I said again, because once I was fantical about it. Bell has announced it has fixed it too many times and had another crash. Plus parts do not normally fall off brand new aircraft on delivery flight. Nor is compressor stall a normal deal. If it was, every major airport would be packed with jet liners making emergency landings. If they can develop a chin turret and some side gun postions I may believe it is surviable in combat. Sticking a machine gun on the ramp is a joke....The old Huey could defend itself better than that. You have to remember VTOL fighters like the Harrier and new F-35 B have different missions. They are meant to take off and land from relatively small and primitive spaces. But do their fighting away from there. In conventional mode. The V-22 is meant to land and take off directly in combat. It is large and not as maneuverable as a helicopter. We don't need three hundred plus VIP transports.....For now as far as I am concerned jurys still out. Helicopters are not faster than conventional aircraft. The laws of physics limit the top speed, the faster they go the more the nose is pulled down by the main rotor blades. At a certain point they just can't fly faster.....

  8. vertical takeoff and landing

    hovering

    better maneuvering than a plane

flies at lower altitude than a plane

good for filming stuff or doing traffic reports

good in the military for previous reasons above

  9. VTOL - Vertical take off and landing, they can aslo be used to lift and move objects, like trees for forrestry, steel girders for buildings, and my favorit repleneshment of supplies and mail while at sea.  Their most important would have to be pulling people out of the water or other dangerous situations.

  10. Wht did you wait for so long to do your homework and why do you want someone else to do it for you. Try picking up a book and reading about the subject or go on-line and search for the information.
