I'm doing a report so I can test on my 1st Dan or 1st Degree Black Belt, it requires doing a 15 page report, and it's due today. I'm asking for help, this is not considered cheating because they never told me to ask on the internet. So one of the questions on the research paper that my master gave me is "What is the purpose of wearing a Uniform in Tae Kwon Do?". I can search it up because I've already tried that here on yahoo search, google, and wikipidia. I'm asking is you can try getting information. and making sure if you can give me the address please.(:

Thanks.(:

  1. Uniforms are worn for many reasons. One is that it would be hard to get high kicks if you're wearing a mini-skirt or something tight. Another is that it shows respect. If you walk in wearing a shirt with an innapropriate logo, you'll probably be kicked out, so it prevents students from doing that. It's also convenient because then you can identify a martial artist. Hope I helped! :)

  2. A taekwondo uniform is very similar to a karate or judo uniform, which is ironic because when the Koreans were standardizing taekwondo as the national martial art in the 1950s, they wanted to establish it as separate and distinct from the Japanese martial arts.  They had just ended 50 years of occupation by Japan, and there was a lot of bitterness and resentment toward the Japanese.  So the only reason I can think for using their uniform is lack of creativity!  : )

  3. What's the purpose of military officers wearing suits with medals instead of regular shirts and pants? I think it's the same thing.

It shows that you are part of something. You're trained and disciplined by it and honor its tradition. Plus I guess it's more comfortable...

I used to take Tae Kwon Do lessons. I thought it was just a uniform design by whoever started that form of martial arts.

  4. Just research on why people wear uniforms in the first place.

You should find the points you need to tie in with tae kwon do.

  5. So you don't catch cold, die of emberassment, or get laughed at. lol

I honestly don't know. Too bad you didn't start your report sooner. Only reason I can think of is tradition.
