  1. I know it is better than humans but it takes longer to adjust. A couple minutes vs however long it takes peoples eyes to adjust. Not sure how it compares to other animals but it has to be really good. A wild horse that cant see well at night is a dead horse.

  2. horses vision at night is pretty awesome, we used to do a lot of rides at night and we totally trusted our horses to guide us.

  3. a horses night vision is very good.  not only do they need to be able to smell predators, but also see them, and in turn see where they are going if they need to run.  obviously many hunting animals also have good night vision because they need to see to catch their prey.  but considering horses have the flight instinct their vision is probably one of the best, they have to have it to stay alive.

  4. Horses see very well at night. Much better than humans. A good indicator of animals that see well in the dark is that their eyes glow when you shine a light on them, which horses eyes do. That's how I find them on dark nights. That's also how horses are able to find their way home at night. They need good night vision to protect themselves from predators. They see as well as any other night visioned animal with the exception of probably an owl.

  5. I'm not sure of percentages, but animals with nocturnal vision have what's called mirror vision...they have highly light reflective tissue on the retina inside the eye to allow images to be percieved in a dark environment.  When your headlights hit the eyes of animals with this reflective tissue, the light is reflected back to you....I'm sure you've seen it...the eyes look like lightbulbs.

Horses are somewhere between cats and humans, but I can't remember where, (not as well as cats, I know) and I'm too lazy to look it up....sorry. Anyway, they have enough to move around and function at night...my horses go out and graze at night all the time.
