What is the quickest, most family friendly route from Memphis, TN to Destin, FL?

Google Maps takes me through Birmingham, AL, but that takes longer than going through Jackson MS. I could take I-55 south to Jackson, MS, then through Hattiesburg, MS and Mobile AL. That route would keep me on the Interstate the longest.

AAA suggests taking US-78 to US-45 through Tupelo, MS, Meridian, MS and Mobile, AL. I'm unsure of the road conditions and the availability of rest stops. If you can recommend this route let me know.

I like your idea of straight south to Jackson, then cutting through Hattiesburg to Mobile, and then on to Destin. I would pick that route too.

AAA seems to pick a route with a love for stop lights...and cranky local cops.

I40.  78 is more scenic but with road construction.
