  1. A lot depends on the process used by the employer

Most big companies will advertise in press or through agency , the role(s) which they need to fill , Depending on the responsibility of each roll will govern time span

e.g for a middle management role it would normally involve asking you to write an application and attach a CV . These would then be screened by the company and a group of individuals would be called in for interview ,. A 2 nd round of interviews may be required with a short list of candidates and then after that the successful person(s) would receive written confirmation of the job

When I was involved in recruitment I used to allow

    a. 2 weeks to advertise , receive applications and invite for first interview

b 1 week for initial interview

    c. 1 week to write to successful applicant and receive confirmation they could start

    4. Most people will have to give a months notice to their current employer

  2. Training is usually paid, so the day you start training is generally the day you would consider you job started.

I applied to a coffee shop on a monday, they called tuesday for an interview, would have been tuesday but I couldn't so the interview was wednesday, they called back that evening, and I started thursday. So 4 days. I would say it would generally be a minimum of 3 days given they call you or schedule an interview right after they get your resume and hire you on the spot.

But your training would be paid, its not like you would have 3 months of unpaid training or something.
