What is the quickest/cheapest way to get from Copenhagen to Billund to see LEGOLAND?

I'll be in Copenhagen next month for summer holiday and I wanna take my family to Tivoli and I would like my son to experience LEGOLAND as well. I understand we have to ride a bus if we take a train, but what time does it leave and how long is the travel? How many trains do we have to ride a train and where exactly will we get off the train? We will not stay overnight at Billund cuz our hostel is located in Copenhagen so we have to go back the same day. My only concern also about taking a train is about the the tour going back to Copenhagen, Im not sure if there is a train going back there from Billund and what time.

And my other last option is, if we take the plane, is there any cheap round-trip flight for one day? We wanna explore legoland the whole day so we will leave Copenhagen as early as 6 am, be it on train or not.

You can get day train--out and back--together with your admission ticket for a very good price.  Journey time is 3 hours and 8 minutes from Copenhagen Central Station, with change to bus (included in the r/t price) at Vejle Station--only about 40 minutes on the bus.

Flights to BLL are over 800 Dkr r/t currently for midweek, advance purchase on Cimber Air.

An "endagsbillet" is a summer offer from Danish national rail company DSB.  It's out and back in the same day for the price of one-way.  If you can't find the train+Legoland admission specials, then getting this endagsbillet will likely be the cheapest option.
