What is the quickest method to transfer 40gb files from a laptop to a pc?

I would like to reformat my laptop, and need to save necessary files. Unfortunately, my external hard drive broke. Can you suggest any other ways to transfer 40gb of files from my laptop to my pc?

Please don't suggest uploading the files on the internet, and then downloading them - it takes way too long. I'm much more interested in non-internet ways, like LAN. But I don't know much about LAN file sharing. If that's the quickest way, can you enlighten me please?

Use a cross over Ethernet cable to connect the two.  then create a share on one and connect to the share with the other

What I would do is hook them up to the same network, have shared folders, and copy/cut/paste everything into the shared folders, and then get on your PC, go into the shared folder, find your files you just cut into there, and paste them somewhere else on your PCs hard drive. That's what my friend does all the time with him and his brother-works like a charm, so they both don't have to download one file.

You could use an Ethernet cable between the two.

Then create a network. Go to the laptop and make a network saying that the laptop connects directly to a computer... blah blah blah.

Windows will pretty much tell you how to do it. If not, Google "Computer to Computer network".
