They keep calling and asking for donations. My husband is an officer, yet I have never heard of them.

  1. I am an officer and your husband should know more on the topic.  If he is a supporter he probably is a member and doesn't need to donate money anyway.  As for the other answer stating that there are people imitating and scamming it is very true.  So, ask your husband.  If he doesn't agree with them and is not a member he more than likely doesn't want to donate.

As for who they are they fight for higher pay, more benefits, etc. for police officers.  They issue a newsletter every so often and provide legal defense for a cost even if your husband is considered to have performed a criminal act during his job, ie. bad shooting, graft, etc.

  2. The FOP is an organization whose membership is divided into two categories: members, who must be a law enforcement officer and associate or supporter, who can be anyone that is concerned for or supports the law enforcement profession.  As a spouse, you get some benefits of your spouses membership.  The FOP has many functions.  In many states, it is the union for officers.  They also do charitable work and help provide training for officers.  Another benefit is job related legal assistance.  Your husband should be familiar with them - ask him.

Beware of callers representing themselves as the FOP and asking for donations.  Believe it or not, many scammers try this.

  3. Seriously, and your husband is a cop. The FOP is a group of people made up of Police Enforcers.
