  1. You are talking about the deck with all the food I think, although I have never heard it called that.

I think your referring to the Lido deck or Promenade

  2. Free style is when you do not have to eat with the same parties each night and you can come and go as you please for dinner no set time, and no same people to agravate you each time for dinner. also a word of wise is that everyone exagerates when they go on a cruise. Last year we were on the Princess and this man said he was a doctor to find out that he was a janitor because my husband was not feeling well and he could not help him. We are both retired from funeral services ,although my husband was having a heart attack this man says Oh he was making this up to impress people so never believe what they say at the dinner table.

  3. I'm not sure what you mean by Freestyle Deck on the Norwegian Pearl.  Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) numbers its decks.  Here is a link to the NCL Pearl's deck plans ...

However, Freestyle is a key word for NCL.  It describes NCL's different way of doing things.  For example Freestyle Dining and Freestyle Debarkation.

Most cruise lines request that you leave your stateroom early in the morning on debarkation day.  NCL allows you to stay in your cabin until it is time for you to leave.  This is called Freestyle Debarkation.

However, the biggest Freestyle concept is Freestyle Dining.  Most of the ships have ten or more restaurants on board.  These fall into four classes:

    Buffet / fast food

    Main

    Free specialty

    Extra cost specialty

The buffet and main restaurants do not require reservations.  These restaurants are also free (actually included in the cost of the cruise).

The free specialty restaurants do require reservations, but are free.

The extra cost specialty restaurants require reservations and have an additional cost.

The "Freestyle" come from the fact that unlike the traditional method of having an assigned seat and dining time, Freestyle allows you to eat anytime you want (during a set period of time, between 5pm and 10pm for example) and with whomever you want (no assigned seating).  So, it is more or less like eating on land.  You choose a restaurant, you either just go or you make reservations.  You also get to pick your dining partners.

Here is a link to NCL's own description of "Freestyle."

  4. freestyle refers to the atmosphere there... you can come & go as you please. They want you to have a less formal feel to things
