Compare Black Angus, pricy nice, big wine list, average 2 top will spend about sixty, server is constantly moving, so how is it for a server at a 5 star restaurant. Have you worked at both, can you explain to me the differences from the servers aspect in the best detail possible

  1. I have not worked as a server before, but I actually asked a similar question to a waiter at a Four seasons hotel restaurant in New york. ( 5-star restaurant ).

The menu items are very unique in 5-star restaurants, so first you need to be versed in the proper terminology on the menu and to communicate with the Chef with proper pronunciation.

ex-  New york steak (medium) with a side of mash potatoes vs. Filet of Bison, Foie Gras, Perigord Truffle Sauce.

Superior service because service is catered to each customer and their needs.  You recognize customers needs even before they ask you.  Extensive knowledge of fine foods and wines in order to recommend with explanation of why...

I don't have experience working as a server but I can tell you as a customer that there is a Grand Canyon of a difference in terms of quality of service from the waiters.

I hope that helps...the best way is to see for yourself.

  2. Extremely high end restaurants might have 2-3 waiters specifically assigned to your table. They even do things like sweep crumbs off of the tablecloth for you. It's over the top personal service without it being too obtrusive.
