What is the "slap" and "pop" technque on bass guitar? How do I do it??

plz help i can pizzcato on bass but how do I slap and pop?

This is done with the thumb and index finger of the right hand. With the outstretched thumb, hammer on the string (usually one of the lower strings - it takes practice to slap on the A string cleanly!). The thumb should be parallel to the strings. This is the 'slap'. The 'pop' is done by pulling hard on the string (usually one of the upper strings)and releasing it so it snaps against the fingerboard. Try not to use excessive force to minimize wear and tear. (If you know any classical string instrument, the 'Bartok pizzicato' is the equivalent of the 'pop' as we know it.)

With these two sounds, you can really spice up your bass line. Actual slap-pop patterns shouldn't be hard to find on YouTube.

its a funk technique that is used mostly in funk music. youtube can give you teh best results on learning to do it as there is a video.
