  1. 40 to 60 yards with bird shot or buck shot, and 100 to 150 yards with rifled slugs or sabots.*

  2. G'Day mate i have a 12 gauge shot gun,put it this way if  you where standing 200 meters that's about 218 yards if i shot you with a rabbit load we use 4 shot here in australia it wouldn't kill you it would p**s you off if anything if you point it up to get distance ive shot 500 meters that's about 546 yards it just sprayed the ground just a tiny bit of dust and that wouldn't not kill you for sure. Now for killing power like rabbits, etc you wouldn't go beyond 110 meters that's about 120 yards and that's pushing it a bit also you can kill it if hit properly 110 meters that is about 360 feet and to me 120 yards is pushing it a bit , furthest

I've shot my shot gun at a rabbit most of the time i shoot 87 yards and that's a sure kill, on pigs 90 meters is the most i would go, that's with a sg or ssg buck shot on pigs any more they just run off depending on the size of the pig  shot gun are a close range gun  they are not for far shooting.  cheers mate

  3. More like 30 yards.

And that's out of an 18inch barrel with no choke.

Up to 100 with slugs but i assume you mean buckshot.

  4. 100 yards for slugs -- Some claim 200 with slugs but I think thats a stretch....  Buckshot in real world terms - 40 yards...... Trap / skeet / bird shot.... 40 yards maybe depending on shot loading...

  5. 40-50 feet generally. The longer the barrel the tigher the spread. I remember firing buckshot and it went 200 yards out, I saw a dust cloud when I fired come out the mountain we were shooting at.

For slugs 100 generally, 200 yards max. Even with a rifled barrel. They will keep going but there's no accuraccy going farther.

  6. The shotgun doesn't give the shot range, but the powder load behind you.

Also depends on the barrel length, choke used, and mostly the environment.

The shot itself can go up to 200 yards.

  7. Depends on the length of barrel and shell load.  It can certainly reach beyond 30 feet, again depending on the load.

  8. It will depend a lot on the load, shot size, barrel length and choke. Usually, the effective distance is around 30-40 yards. In my case, it's usually about a foot short of whatever bird I'm shooting at.

  9. First there is effective range and then there is maximum range.  The shot size will determine the maximum range.  Small shot (#8) will run out of steam at 300 yards.  A slug might go for over a mile.

Effective range depends on choke.  A full choke 12 ga shotgun should be effective out to 40 yards.  Modifided choke 30 yards.  Improved choke 25 yards.  Slugs again could be useful out to 100 yards.
