What is the range of the XM radio signal?

I'm going to be deploying on a Navy ship here in the next few months. Will my XM radio work as I'm transiting the Indian Ocean?

  1. Ah, good question.  You should contact XM and ask them,  I am not sure it will reach that far!


  2. Nope.. Not at all...

    Pretty much XM and Sirius are a spot beam aimed at the US and Canada and is not even available in Hawaii (actually there are online groups trying to see where they can actually hear it in Hawaii and Alaska)

    But pretty much down to about the 24th or 25 degree Latitiude. A few hundred miles outside of US waters it's supposed to fall off. Word is it can be picked up in Puerto Rico and The Virgin Islands but after that is ?

    Only thing in that area of the world is a service called Worldspace airing American and european based programming for expats and people who can afford sat radio in Africa and Asia
