What is the ratio for 0-16 year old children to adults. e.g. for nursery or creche?

  1. It depends where you live, in the UK its all about to change with the introduction of the foundation phase.


  2. Look up:

    National Care Standards on the www.suretstart.gov.uk site and it should tell you all the ratios.

    The ratio depends on the age and is split into age groups so if its mixed ages then you need to calculate the ratio carefully...similarly the amount of children you can have in one room is determined by the size.

  3. The current law for ratio for any nursery registered by OFSTED are 0-18months is: 2 to 1adult, 18months to 2yrs 3 to 1 adult , 2yrs to 3yrs four to 1 adult & 3yrs to 5yr 8 to 1adult.

  4. up to one year 3:1

    2 yr olds 4:1

    3-5yr olds 8:1

    older kids are 15:1 (I think)
