Question:

What is the rationale behind having different equivalent prices in Euro and $ for the same download?

I often see a download priced at $x at the US site, but priced at around x Eur for the european site. Since the Euro is much more worth, this doesn't seem logical. Downloads have a global existence with no extra local costs and therefore I'd expect the price to be the same around the world. Why should it cost around 50% more to download some software in EU?

  1. First off, what are the price quotes?  Yes the Euro is more than the dollar, but is the European site asking for the same numerial value in the price as the US site? Or is the Euro price adjusted to equal the US Dollar?   For instance, if a download cost $1.00/USD, does it cost €1 or €0.50?  If its the $1-€1, then yes, the European site is asking more and not taking the currency conversion into account. If the prices are $1-€0.50, then no, the price for the download is the same.
