  1. If you want a specific grade level on it you can type in a section (usually about 100 words or so) and then do SpellCheck.  The Readability Statistics will give you a grade level based on the Fleishman Scale.

You can also go to www.lexile.com and look up the lexile level of any book (A Child Called It is 850).

The thing to keep in mind, though, is that most of these methods to determine reading level are based on things like word or sentence length, number of syllables, how common the words are, and things like that.  They DO NOT take into account the content of the book, and that can totally change the readability.

Most of my seventh and eighth grade students loved the book, but some weren't ready for it.  My son read it in sixth grade, and he could handle it.  It's a fabulous book, very intense, and requires a certain level of maturity on the part of the reader.

You can also get it on CD, and there are sequels.

  2. like 7th or 8th grade. i read it in 6th and i was fine.

  3. well i read it my sophmore year in highschool!!!

but it seems really elementary, id say its like 7th grade

  4. im not sure but my mom and sis are reading it now... and from what i here it is pretty strange, so dont be giving it to some immature kids if you know what i mean. . .
