What is the real meaning of "cool"?

Everyone has different opinions of cool, my questions is, what does it REALLY mean? How are people interpreted as cool? Why are people that are usually cool, also mean?

You mean like the definition of it?  Cool REALLY means neither warm no cold. If you want the meaning that people have given it, it means something that is either interesting or socially acceptable by a certain crowd of people. For example, Gangsters think its cool to rob and murder. Preppy snobs think its cool to wear shades that cover half your face. And Animal rights activists think, well, animals are cool!

"cool" people are also seen as mean because usually, amongst cliques and certain adolescent crowds, a cool person is someone who is also popular and well known. Popularity has a tendency to make one feel higher then others and thus they can become agressive to anyone they think is of a lower status. The definition of COOL in this case is purely opinionated then, because some people may find these people cool, but others dont.
