  1. Blattaria.

"Cockroaches (or simply "roaches") are insects of the order Blattaria. This name derives from the Latin word for "cockroach", blatta."

Added:- From most of what I've read, Dictyoptera is a Superorder, and there are three Orders within that Superorder (Blattaria, Isoptera and Mantodea). Blattaria = cockroaches, Isoptera = termites, and Mantodea = mantises.

However, on the zipcodezoo website (link below), it does state, "The closest relatives of mantises are the orders Isoptera (termites) and Blattodea (cockroaches), and these three groups together are sometimes ranked as an order rather than a superorder."

I gather that in the cases where people consider the three groups to be a superorder, each of the three is considered to be an order, but in the cases where people consider the three groups to be an order, each of the three would be a suborder.

I only added all that because, since you've got two answers that are different from each other, you are probably more confused than before. I don't claim to be an expert at all, but just thought I would add the extra bit of info. and link as it might help to explain why there might be confusion.

Here is some more info. about it:

Just one more webpage that might help:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suborder

I'm not a real fan of Wikipedia, but that page gives some information about classification etc..

    Hope that helps.

  2. The answer is Dictyoptera.

    It has two sub orders.

    1. Blattaria (cockroaches)

    2. Mantodea (mantids)

    hence,

Blattaria is mere a sub order of Dictyoptera.

    hope that helps..
