  1. Invest more money in youth

  2. They are brain athletes, not physical athletes.

It is not their faults, but their country's systems.

Politicians don't know how to use money.

Someday, they will be changed. I hope it.

  3. Maybe india's just not talented when it comes to these sports at least India has a decent cricket team.

Be happy about that Ireland seems to have even worse performances!! : (

  4. I think the answer has something to do with Indian culture. Careers in sports are discouraged, unless it is cricket which is hardly the most athletic sport out there. There is a far greater emphasis on children to pursue careers in traditional professions, such as medicine, law, IT etc.

The government needs to invest in youth sport and provide the means for promising athletes to develop their full potential. There has to be a financial incentive for young people so that they can make a career out of sport.

  5. russell peters answer: "They're just too lazy. That's why you never see an Indian athlete or on the NFL"

but seriously, its the same in canada: not enough interest, funding and/or opportunities to develop on athletic development

  6. indian is still a developing country and they dont have many sport faciltiles and a lot of families in india are living in shacks and poor conditions so sports are the least of their worries food, clothing, a place to sleep is on the top of most indians concerns

and whoever said that they are lazy is seriously WRONG do u guys not see that many doctors in this country are indians? doctors arent lazy there committed and hardworking people

  7. 1) Too much cricket played, watched, sponsored, supported, etc.

    2) Lack of proper professional sporting bodies in india.

    3) again cricket

    4) Lack of funds for purchasing training equipments, paying our athlethes

5)Lack of proper training grounds and places.

    6) Cricket

7)Government( state& central) not supporting our athletes but they will give away cash and prizes to the athletes aftre they win some medals or events and take credit for somebody elses hard work.

    8) NO public support for other sporting events except cricket.

    9) NO SPORTING CULTURE IN INDIA

    10) Abolish politics and politicians from the games.

    11) Lack of exposure of our athletes to the international arena and real competition.

The 1,3,6  points are one of the main factors for our failure of our indian athletes coz most of indians r interested only in CRICKET. its proven . people do not encourage their kids to watch other sports this has to come from root levels.

The govt and the Respective athletic boards r the main culprit for letting down india. Most of them are corrupt , lack professionalism and very biased  Let these people support our athletes b4 they go 2 any events rather than give away cash and prizes  and try to take credit for wat the athletes have achieved .Do not even let a politician come near any athletes.

And finally our very own popululation is brainless, People support only cricket , of course even few other sports r supported but not to the extent of cricket. its simple u just take a survey on how many people know the 11 players in our national team of Cricket, Football and hockey . I bet most of them will tell u all the names of our cricket team and get stick wit Baichung butia and dhanraj pillai (ex). And it will show u the level of sporting culture in our country.

Improving our sporting culture is a big uphill task it takes a very huge event to turn around the fortunes of our country lets hope it will happen atleast in another 20 years.
