s**y house music forgets to add that before these provinces became pro Russian they were first ethnically cleansed. In this way everyone, even the state of California can become "pro-russian".

Anyhow, at the bottom, the true reason is that neither Russia nor Georgia seem to be able to get rid of their soviet mentality. Moscow wants to rebuild its lost empire and fall back to a militaristic authoritarian system where it sees itself a resurgent superpower with imperialistic appetites. They financed and rearmed the separatists in S. Ossetia and Abkhazia hoping that would spark the conflict. It did. On the other side Georgians are still not able to understand what really "democracy" is and have still trouble to understand what it means to grant peacefully autonomy to their regions if not in military terms and fall into the Russians trap. After all at the roots is a clash of an old and a new but still immature worldview.

A Ukrainian professor on last week ends TV, explained that the two break away Georgian Provence's, were being harassed by the Georgian majority, to the point of "ethnic cleansing". Russia offered them some sort of safety from this abuse. Georgia didn't like it.The US has a military installation in Georgia and must go along with the Georgians just as we did with the Iraqis just a few years ago when they wanted to invade Iran.
