  1. I'm not sure of the jump from 30 to 40 but I do know the origin of "love". It comes from the French" L'oeuf" which means "egg" so it's a "goose egg" or zero.


  2. The French came up with it. That's the way they wanted it. As is typical, they decided to make it unusual and never explain it.  heh~ I love love love France and the French (except paris) and the truth is, it is a monastic counting system for the times of prayer, so they probably played implementing the same time tracking method just for fun. That's the general hypothesis, and frankly its the most logical.

  3. if the players got 40-40 the one wo will get the next point will get an advantage which is i think the 45 that you've been asking!

  4. read earlier on Y!A that the scoring system originated with the time on a clockface, i.e. 15, 30, and 45. 60 would be "game" so there's no need to say 60.

    45 was shortened to 40 for brevity. Often in friendly play or local play, "5" is used for "15".
