What is the reason for this pattern in internet traffic ?

While visting internet traffic analzying website Alexa.com. I noticed a reduction in %usage for all the major websites in September'07 .

Here is the diagram :

Can anyone please tell me the probable reason ?

First of all, Alexa.com is not truly representative of relevant SEO traffic and most of their indicators is based on the domain name relevance rather than to SEO metatags.  Don't put much credence on Alexa.com since the majority of website do not want to expense marketing efforts and expense on "branding" their domain name which is a very costly proposition.

Recession, competition, and user intent to name a few. Many things can effect internet traffic. That is why you have to keep current on the trends and keep doing trial and error. The internet never closes and you shouldn't either.
