  1. Thomas Malthus, a political economist, came up with the theory called principal of population. To put it short this theory stated that as population increases the food supply goes down. As food supply goes down population decreases. As population decreases food supply goes back up which causes a spike in population. I hope you see where I'm going.

A famine in a country can be cause from an over eating or an over populated area where food production does not match the number of civilians.

Also a famine could just be caused by a series of bad weather events or catastrophes.

Lastly a famine can be a result of investing to much into one source of food, and then something like a fungus of parasite wipe out the surplus. Thus causing a reliance on something else that isn't there. (Irish potato famine)

Ultimately a famine cause in severe cases, massive migration (Irish potato famine) and death

  2. Those that have food don't share . Too many people and not enough food.

  3. the population simply outgrows the food source, or a drought or other natural disaster occurs and there are no stored food sources available.
