is there any advantage to using a wireless network that is secured really?

and is the unsecured network option going to cause any problems really ? for example is it possible that people could see what I am doing online who are using the same router?

why do people really choose to use a secured network really if there isnt a problem?

sounds kind of selfish doesnt it?

why and how so in your opinion?

thanks for your answers!

  1. In secure wireless network hacking is less. Yes it is possible that people could see what you are doing online. And could also know your account passwords and even bank details. There are so many softwares available like sniffer which can access all chat conversations and video streaming using same router.

  2. So others can't tap into your internet and steal your internet that you pay for.

  3. people use secured connections because they want security. What I do on the internet should be my business, not my neighbor's, or who knows who.

  4. It has nothing to do with being selfish. When you fill up your gas tank do you leave the pump on and available so everyone else can fill up on your credit card?

People can easily use your Internet connect and do whatever they want -and it looks like YOU are doing it. Plus there's a good chance they can hack into your computer and look at anything and everything you have stored on it.

On top of that, if lots of other people are using your Internet connection, it's going to slow your session way, way down.

There are lots of reasons to use security on your wireless network.

  5. very simple, same concept to stealing cable.

you pay for your internet connection, the more people that have access to it the slower it is for you.

It make you an easy target for illegal activity, and one can connect to your network and perform illegal acts that will be trace to you the owner of the network.

having an unsecured wireless connection esspically if you have a lot of personal data such as passwords, credit numbers and such stored it opens the door for identity theft.

and yes if someone wants to see what your doing they can very easly take control of your machine, without you knowing

Conclusion: make your network secure even if your just using a wep key if ya wanna share at your desecration that give them your wep/pass key its a good way to monitor who uses your wireless.

there are plenty of free wifi cafes and such for people to use.

  6. a secure wireless network means only people in your house or people who know the pin can use it. If hackers get into your wireless network they can probably get a whole lot of information on you like passwords and even credit card numbers (if you've used your credit card online) or they can infect your computer/network with a virus

So secure wireless networks are overall just much safer.

  7. A friend in Australia was hauled into the police station because a neighbor was using his unsecured WiFi to distribute child p**n, and the IP address traced back to my friend. He didn't have to face charges, but he was banned from the internet for three or more months while this was being dealt with.

    Secure your network ! !
