  1. "God's Book and the Sunnah of His Prophet, God's prayers and peace be upon him, are the constitution of KSA."

For your question why alcohol is forbidden in Islam, please visit the link giving below:

Knowing this I have to admid that there is alcohol consumption in Islamic countries, also in KSA. Also when I am not from KSA, I got told by Saudi friends, who are drinking, that there is hardly no wealthy family who do not hold spirits in the house to serve friends.

In Western compounds you' ll find alcohol everywhere. All is just a matter of position and wasta.

Also when alcohol is forbidden in Islam, sorry to say that there are many Muslims consuming it and are even alcoholics.

For the answerer who mentioned alcohol in the UAE: you can buy and consume alcohol in licensed bars, restaurants etc. and foreigners holding a liquor license can also buy alcohol in liquor stores. Muslims who are not allowed to buy alcohol in these stores just drive their cars up there, blow the horn, wait for the sales person to come out and place their order. Where is a will, there is a way. Not all Muslims are going stricly by the rules, like Christians and others don't either.

    Take care.

edit your comments regarding Mintee's answer: I respect her view of things like I expect people respecting my opinions, no matter if agreed with it or not.

No where Mintee was telling you what to do or not. She just stated the effects of consuming alcohol and she is right about these facts. I also assume that her answer was giving before you extended your question saying that you do not have any intention on living in KSA.

Anyway, it's understandable that you and Mintee have different views on the subject alcohol, but that is no reason to get personal and jump on each others back. We all got brought up in different societys and cultures and should respect and learn from each other. Take it easy!

  2. Because drinking alcohol is prohibited in their religion.

  3. They don't like to have fun!

  4. You may not have noticed but KSA is a relegious country a VERY relegious country where they have Muslim Law and Alchohol is thus prohibited in the country. If you want Alchohol i beleive you can get it in the UAE but it is very restricted there aswell and i beleive you can only get it in the UAE from hotels. The Middle East is not really a good place for a beer drinker eh?

  5. Because the government banned it. But you can still find alcohol.  You can either go to a Western compound where it is real exspensive or you can buy it from Saudis and Pakistanis for cheaper. Like a big bottle of Jack Daniels is about 5 US dollars rather than 45 at a compound.

Almost everyone drinks so it isnt that difficult to find alcohol, a lot of people brew there own beer.

Imakeitain, Saudi is not a religious country, almost everyone drinks, smokes tobacco and hash, most people don't pray, men cheat on there wives with filipina maids and trips to Bahrain and the women cheat on there husbands with guest workers.  Check out the people who live across the street from masjid al haraam, not religious at all.

  6. Its illegal and against islamic teachings. Having said that I do miss my Fosters once in a while. Suggest you work in AlKhobar, Saudi Arabia (Esatern Area) and you can travel to Bahrain over the bridge for a brewsky in 15 mins !

PS. I anticipate about 15 thumbs down for that comment but I really don't care. I miss having a cold one sitting in front of the TV and watching sports.

  7. as previous answers mentioned, alcohol is very prohibited in islam and considered a crime, this why it is banned in saudi

of course, there is a big black market of alocohol drinks in saudi from black labels, to wines to all beers, but they come with very luxury price

it kinda works the same way as restricting the smoking now in europe and the US. at the end, it forces people to lower their consumption so much. the only ones who smoke are the really serious smokers.

it is more or less the same with alcohol in saudi, and i prefer it this way here. when i grew up as a teen i was pretty much liberal teen. me and my friends were open to any idea that would come in our ways. however, since it is not available, alcohol was never part of our thinking.

personally, at that time i didn't have a relegious reason not to drink alcohol. later on in my life, i continued not consuming alcohol, but big part of it was relegious, i didn't want to do it.

so, when i grew older, i never ever felt that i should struggle with myself to decide if i want to consume alcohol or not. it just came naturally, as something out of my life.

  8. Happy hippie,

Alcohol was initially restricted in the koran especially during prayer time. Nevertheless as Prophet Mohamed noticed that the believers did not control it well, it was prohibited alltogether.

Thus alcohol in KSA is not allowed. The ruling is related to Islam, even though from my knowledge sharia in islamic countries allows it for non-muslims.

That is all. Dont worry about certain reactions as here the very idea of alcohol is seen in a very different way. It is related to drunkeness and intoxication---it is not viewed in the same way as lets say France, where it is simply a Sunday family occasion.

    Hope that clarifies the situation.
