What is the reason the british pound is more expensive than the American dollar?

The US economy is by far bigger and better than the british one. Then, why the british pound is more expensive??

  1. Nobody has gotten this question correct yet.  It is because the British pound is still backed by REAL money...silver.

    The U.S. dollar is not backed by REAL money anymore.  

    The real question is why is the British pound not worth even more, since it is backed by real money (hence real value).

  2. World money markets have devalued the dollar because of huge national debt. About 1998, the euro cost me around 89c and now the same euro would cost me $1.48. Also, the Federal Reserve is allowing the dollar to be inflated so as to provide more credit to Wall St. companies that lost billions on the crash of the real estate market. You'd think that the people with a lot of money would be smarter than you and me--but they aren't!

  4. You are never going to get a real answer for this here.  Currency exchange valuation is a very complex matter, and it is unlikely that anyone here (other than me) understands even a small part of the various drivers involved.  There is no simple answer.
