I think you are probably after Australian Standards. These are set by government bodies for various products and products must conform to them. Every type of product has its own standard and they are not always readily accessible by the general public.

australian and new zealand have different regulations (many are the same but still some inconsistancies) so you would need to contact govt dept in each country NZ would be consumer affairs dept
