  1. Inertia is the tendency of objects to want to stop. Basically, you need  a certain amount of energy to move an object. As anyone who as ever thrown a heavy object knows, you need much more energy to move something with greater mass. Greater mass= more energy needed to move= greater inertia.

  2. I thought inertia is the strength it takes to move the mass. The bigger the mass, the more inertia it takes to move it.

  3. inertia is the measure of its mass

more mass more inertia and vice versa

  4. If the object has more mass, its inertia is harder to overcome because it has a greater force than an object with less mass traveling at the same speed. Think of it this way...

Does it hurt more if you get hit by a ping pong ball moving at 20 km/hr or a car moving at the same speed? It's harder to overcome the inertia of the car because it has greater mass.

    Get the picture?

Force is the agent which causes a change in the velocity of an object and thereby to accellerate it. Inertia on he other hand is a property which relates to an intrinsic property of a body to resist any change in its state of rest or of motion (uniform or non-uniform). The term mass is used as a measure of inertia. The greater the mass of a body the less it will accellerate under the action of an applied force and vice versa.

Newton's first law of motion, is sometimes called, the law of inertia. It defines a special set of reference frames called inertial reference frames. a reference frame that moves with constant velocity with respect to the distant stars. The first postulate of Einstein's theory of relativity states:

"All the laws of physics are the same in all inertial reference frames."

This simple statement, the foundation of his special theory of relativity, was to have a profound impact on our concepts of Space
