    As the distance between 2 genes gets bigger, the rate of recombination increases. 2 genes next to each other have a low rate of recombination, while genes that are far away have a rate that approaches 50%. The rate of recombination won't be higher than 50%.

    Genes that are "linked" (on the same chomosome) will have a rate from 0-50%, unlinked genes (on different chromosomes) will have a rate of 50% according to Mendel's law of independent assortment.
