What is the relationship in temperature of these two cities?

i'm trying to figure out the relationship between the temperatures of portland, oregon and portland, maine. I know that the pacific ocean heats up portland, oregon during the winter, keeping it above freezing. what i don't understand is that portland, maine is also near an ocean, but its wintern temperatures are significantly colder. Anybody care to explain this for me?

Winds come from the west to the east generally in the US. So the wind comes off the pacific ocean to Portland, Oregon. While the wind comes from Canada into Portland, Maine.
